Wellbeing for Women with Sara Turner
According to the latest information, there are 9 million people
living with arthritis in the UK. Arthritis means inflammation of
the joints – the two most common kinds in the UK are osteo-
arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Arthritis is not just a
disease of old people and can affect people of all ages,
including children. According to conventional medicine there is
no cure for arthritis – this month on Wellbeing for Women we are
going to be talking to four different complementary health
experts in this area who will share how symptoms can be
minimised and quality of life improved.
My guests are Christine Horner of the Margaret Hills Clinic who
advocates an anti-acid diet, Medical Herbalist Trudy Norris,
Bowen Practitioner John Wilks and medical journalist Nikki
Bradford.

Christine Horner – the Anti Acid Diet
Margaret Hills was crippled by rheumatoid and osteo-arthritis as
a young nurse. When orthodox treatment could do nothing for
her, she researched and developed her simple, natural cure,
which, against medical predictions, was completely successful.
Since then her ‘acid-free’ approach has brought relief to
thousands worldwide. Her daughter, Christine Horner, who now
runs the Margaret Hills Clinic, continues her work.
In this interview and in their book
“Treating Arthritis the Drug-Free Way” they share their unique
drug-free method, inspiring others with Margaret’s hope and
determination. To find our more please visit:

Trudy Norris – Medical Herbalist
Trudy is a fellow of the National Institute of Medical
Herbalists and has been in practice in Scunthorpe North
Lincolnshire since 1993. She also works as Information Officer
for the NIMH which involves the helpline service for those
needing information from a practitioner. . Herbalists use plant
extracts to treat both acute and chronic health problems in
people of all ages. This is done following a detailed case
history including consideration of any orthodox medication the
person may be taking and lifestyle factors that maybe impacting
on their well being. Herbalists recognise and work with the
subtle differences of people and plants and each prescription
will differ depending on the individual needs. Following an
initial consultation follow up visits involve evaluating
progress made and refining the prescription as required. A
herbalist will also give recommendations relating to lifestyle
factors such as diet, exercise and stress management.

Bowen Technique
The Bowen Technique is a ‘light touch’ therapy that stimulates
healing in the body by activating muscles, tendons and
ligaments. It has seen huge popularity despite the fact that
the first training in the technique only took place in the UK
about 15 years ago.
Although particularly successful in treating many musculo-skeletal
problems such as frozen shoulder, back pain and migraines, it is
also suitable for arthritis, chronic pain and inflammatory
conditions because of the gentle nature of the therapy. For
more information see

John Wilks is a senior instructor for the Bowen Therapy Academy
of Australia and practises at two clinics in Dorset, UK.
